"Katie was the best investment for our wedding.

We had the pleasure to work with Katie on two occasions-the surprise engagement proposal and our wedding day. 

To capture the moment as it was happening (and a total surprise for me), Katie met with my husband a week before he planned to propose to me over a lunch. Katie researched the best time, angle and spot in the Strip District of Pittsburgh to provide the best lighting and one of our favorite views of the City. Following the proposal, we had a photo shoot where Katie was able to professionally capture the emotion, excitement and elegance of the day while working with an industrial atmosphere/background. Katie was able to capture great photos in a short amount of time. I was able to look back at photos after the fact, and take in the details I may have missed since I was in shock that my boyfriend of 4.5 years had finally decided to propose! 

I started planning our wedding immediately, and the first vendor I wanted to secure was a photographer. I did some research and contacted a few other photographers, but Katie was the obvious choice from the beginning. My husband and I couldn’t believe how organized and professional she was throughout the entire process. A year before our wedding, Katie invited us to her studio to help us plan a timeline of our wedding day over a glass of wine. Her advice and insight from her previous experiences was so helpful when planning our formal family portraits, bridal party photos and candid wedding day shots. She worked with us to establish a realistic timeline for our wedding day to ensure we were able to capture all the special moments with our friends and family. We were blown away by how Katie was able to professionally guide us throughout the day and stick to the schedule we established together…especially since we are a detail-oriented couple and we had a pretty big bridal party (10 on each side)!

Most importantly, KATIE MADE THE WHOLE DAY SEEM NATURAL AND FUN FOR ALL OF OUR GUESTS. You know you have one of the best photographers in the industry when many of your guests didn’t realize that some of the most authentic and candid moments throughout the wedding reception were artfully captured. Nothing was forced, and the entire day flowed perfectly. Unlike many other photographers, Katie does not over-edit photos or take the same darn shots over and over again. She edits photos to enhance the natural beauty of the day and creates unique photos for every wedding she shoots. All of our other vendors (who were from Erie, PA/ Cleveland, OH /Pittsburgh, PA) have told us that they have never worked with a photographer as good as Katie. 

For those reading this review, you are not going to find a better wedding photographer than Katie. We interviewed several, and many of our friends married before us wished they would have found her. Since our wedding, we have had multiple couples see our photos and instantly set up a meeting with Katie for their own weddings.

“The Best in the Business

Kathryn Hyslop is an absolutely amazing wedding photographer! 

She was excellent throughout the entire process, providing excellent support throughout the planning process, but she really shined on the day of the wedding itself. She was calm, so friendly, orderly, and a lot of fun on the day of wedding. She ensured that we got all of the shots that we wanted on a tight timeline, was courteous and professional with all of our guests, and really made the logistics of the day proceed without a hitch.

She provided engagement photos free of charge which were beautiful (!) and was extremely flexible, allowing us to reschedule 3 times in order to get better weather with no issue or complaint. She also traveled 90 minutes from the city to Ohiopyle to get us some amazing nature shots. Kathryn has a wealth of experience in the greater Pittsburgh area and was able to recommend to us a plethora of great ideas for locations for both our engagement session and wedding photos. We almost had trouble deciding she had so many great and unique options - luckily she helped us with the decision process too. 

Prior to the Big Day, she had a great planning session with me and the groom to walk through the timeline for the big day and she was efficient and knowledgeable. She gave us some great tips on sequence of events for the day (including locking down the time of sunset and ensuring we scheduled time to get night shots), certain aspects of the event (such as purchasing specialized sparklers for the sparkler send-off, creating a detailed list of family combination shots - including not batting an eyelash when we requested help in arranging the family to ensure we could edit certain members out in the future if need be), and discussing start and end times to maximize photograph coverage of our day, etc. 

Kathryn does amazing veil shots, captures special candid moments deftly without you realizing she's even there, and had lots of other creative stagings of the wedding party. She has a very unique vision and was described as "some sort of magician" when our family saw how out of this world all of the final shots were. Moreover, she really worked with us to get to know us and figure out what aspects of the day were important to us. 

Finally, Kathryn provides digital release of all photos and has a great on-line web portal with well-organized photos that are a breeze to download and share with friends and family. All of the shots that she got were excellent, well-edited, and she didn't miss a single event of the wedding (even getting lots of little shots of parts of the wedding that we didn't get a chance to enjoy during the rush of the day). As a bonus, Kathryn finished edited our photos and delivered our final product lightning fast (less than one month post wedding during the height of wedding season).

Kathryn is a gifted photographer and is ready for any situation. We were almost sad that it didn't rain on our wedding day due to her creative and stunning shots in the rain (which is always important in Pittsburgh).
